Endodontic or root canal treatment is a treatment used to save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. A tooth’s pulp (nerve) can become irritated, inflamed, and infected due to deep caries, repeated dental procedures on a tooth, large fillings, or a crack in the tooth.
Each year, millions of teeth are treated and saved with the root canal, or endodontic treatment. Root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes inflamed or infected. Endodontic treatment helps to maintain your natural smile while allowing you to continue enjoying the foods you love.
During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp of the tooth are removed and the inside is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and an abscess may form.
With dental advances and local anesthetics, most people experience little or no pain during the procedure.
Pulpectomy is root therapy performed on baby or decidous teeth of a children. The primary teeth play a role in helping your child eat and speak, to preserve space in the mouth for the permanent teeth. If one or more primary teeth are removed before the permanent teeth are ready to grow in, a child may develop problems with the alignment of his or her teeth.
